Legislative Action

Educating legislators about issues that are important to us is the definition of lobbying, and it's the foundation of our political system. Legislators like to hear from you. They are your voice in government; they depend upon constituents, like you, to inform them about issues that are pressing in the community. You don't need experience, you don't need political know-how; all you need is a passion for change, and you can make a difference. Here are some ideas as to how YOU can make a difference in your community and the fight to raise eating disorder awareness:

STAR (Solutions Through Advocacy and Reform) Program Legislative Advocacy: Be a part of change with the STAR Program. Choose from a range of options that fit your time availability and interests.

Join the Fight!: Help build eating disorder awareness support in Congress. Sign up and take action by registering to receive Action Alerts!

Get in touch with a Representative: Local, Regional, and National Legislative Representatives are in office to hear our voices.  See how you can bring awareness to them—every effort counts! Learn more here.

Media Activism

A large body of research demonstrates that unrealistic standards of beauty and glorification of thinness in our media can have a negative impact on body image, leading to unhealthy weight loss behaviors such as laxative abuse, purging, and restricting. As consumers, we have the opportunity to hold media industry leaders accountable, and encourage messages that support healthy body image and self-esteem. Speak up, and be a part of the Media Watchdogs!

These guides offer practical tools and skills for becoming a critical consumer of the media. Learn how you can take action!
