Each year a video will be made from the photos as a culmination to the project. You can view the 2015 and 2016 videos on our FB page.

WE WILL BE "SOCKING IT" THE ENTIRE MONTH OF FEBRUARY! Gather your friends, family, church or any kind of group together. Have fun. Show the WORLD we are not alone.

A quote from Elysa Roberts of Australia;

"the global connection is so empowering! I listened to the Good Life Project podcast where poet, author Mark Nepo said, "we are more together than we are alone". While I wish, Joan, you would have never needed to start SockIt to ED, those of us benefiting are grateful for your wholeheartedness."

Location:
Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy,1841 Broadway, 4th Floor
City:

Event Summary:

About the Production:

"Skinny Crazy Small" is the chronicle of one quirky and strong-willed girl's battle with anorexia nervosa. The play's young protagonist challenges the stigmas and stereotypes that surround eating disorders, reminding audience members that recovery is possible, although it is not easy.
Inspired by events in the life of creator and performer Sylvie Mae Baldwin, "skinny crazy small" sparks discussion and transports audience members unfamiliar with the disease to anorexia's frontlines.
"Baldwin's performance demonstrates her malleability," says The Daily. "She seamlessly transitions between different character roles and...does not hold back in her vulnerability."
After a celebrated premiere in Seattle, WA, "skinny crazy small" ran in April 2016 at NYC's Theaterlab. The production was filmed this Fall and is in post-production. Stay updated at www.skinnycrazysmall.org
All performances will be followed by a post-play discussion

About the Presenter:

Sylvie Mae Baldwin is an actress, writer, and mental health advocate based in New York City. She is particularly passionate about classical plays, documentary theatre, and theatre for young audiences. Recent regional highlights include The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane at South Coast Repertory (CA), MisterE of Imagination at Lexington Children's Theatre (KY), and King Lear at Key City Public Theatre (WA). Sunday Bunday for NEDAwareness

Date of Event:
Sunday, February 26, 2017
Time:
10am
Location:
Berendo Stairs (Los Feliz/Griffith Park)
City:
Los Angeles
State:
CA
Event Summary:

Want to stretch and sculpt like a dancer?
Whether you've never danced before or you're a veteran, Sunday Bunday classes with @littlebrowngal are for everyone! Come point your toes, move those hips, and leave feeling beautiful inside & out!

This week's session is a special one for a cause that is close to my heart, National Eating Disorder Week. My eating disorder consumed me for over a decade, and as NEDA Week approaches I'm reminded that it's time to talk about it!
The myths.
The facts.
It is not a choice, anyone can be affected. Eating disorders do not discriminate based on sex, age, race, etc. It is a mental illness that is very complex, and different for everyone. Eating disorders have serious consequences to health, productivity, and relationships. Eating disorders also have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Let's open up the conversation, spread awareness, and celebrate the skin we're in!

My recovery and lifelong love for dance and the performing arts inspired me to create this hybrid low-impact workout. This is a donation based class, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Also 100% of the donations made for this week's class will be given to NEDA.
Wear attire you're comfortable in, and bring some water + your mat.
Email me for details and with any questions you might have.
Let's kick-off NEDA Week 2017 right!

All bodies, all genders and all ages are encouraged to participate!

Regardless if you've struggled with an eating disorder or not, we've all experienced that horrible feeling when the scale is the dictator of our self worth and we give it all of our power. Smashing your scale is a declaration of independence from the unattainable standards society sets for both men and women. It symbolizes breaking free from the "perfect number" and all the promises of happiness we believe this number holds. and discovering that we are already enough in the our body right now.

The Conference Center at Sheppard Pratt
City:
Towson
State:
MD
Event Summary:

In recognition of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2017, you’re invited to the Baltimore Premiere of THE STUDENT BODY, an award-winning documentary that takes a stand against bullying and body shaming in schools. When a brave high school student takes a stand against state-mandated BMI tests of her peers, she finds herself in the middle of a national debate, sparking a battle of wills between herself and high ranking government officials. Film screening followed by Q&A with Father-Daughter Filmmakers, Michael & Bailey Webber. WHEN: Sunday, February 26, 2017 2:00 - 4:30 PM RSVP: Event is FREE but space is limited. Pre-registration is highly encouraged. Reserve your seat by clicking the "Register" button above and submitting the online RSVP form. Walk-ins will be accommodated on event day on a first-come first-served basis. FILM SYNOPSIS: In an effort to address the obesity problem among American youth, lawmakers in dozens of states have passed controversial mandates forcing schools to perform BMI tests on students. What soon followed parked a heated national debate. Coined the 'Fat Letters' by students, notification letters were sent to kids whose body mass did not fall within a narrowly acceptable range; essentially telling children, even as young as kindergarteners, that they are fat. When a determined sixth grader in Ohio voices her protest against the letters, student journalist Bailey Webber is inspired to take up her fight. Convinced that her fellow students are being unfairly profiled and bullied by the government, Bailey's investigation soon turns into a battle of wills between herself and the bureaucrats who passed the law. THE STUDENT BODY is a true underdog story of two brave girls who take a stand against government intrusion and hypocrisy while exploring the complex and controversial truths of the childhood obesity debate.

The inspiration for EMBRACE came about after Taryn Brumfitt posted an unconventional before-and-after image on the internet in 2013 that sparked an international media frenzy. The image, which embraces body diversity, was seen by over 100 million people worldwide and led to hundreds of interviews and articles.

Embrace is told from the point of view of Taryn as she traverses the globe talking to experts, women in the street and well-known personalities about the alarming rates of body image issues that are seen in people of all body types. In her affable and effervescent style, Taryn bares all (literally) to explore the factors contributing to this problem and seeks to find solutions."

Please join us for an expert panel "One Size Does Not Fit All" during the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) Awareness Week/Celebrate Every Body Week (CEBW) at Brown University. The panel will be held on 3/1/17 from 6:30-8:30pm in List 110 on the Brown University Campus. The panelists will be Tracy Bergeron, RD, CSSD, Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, Registered Dietitian at Brown University Health Services, Abigail Donaldson, MD, Medical Director of the Eating Disorder (ED) Program at Hasbro Children's Hospital (HCH), Elizabeth Didie, PhD, Clinical Psychologist at the ED Program at HCH, and Erin Lane-Aaronian, PsyD., psychotherapist at Brown University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). All of the panelists commonly work with Brown University students, with three working primarily in the pediatric setting. Themes of debunking myths around EDs and EDs in diverse/marginalized communities will be explored. Each panelist will speak for approximately 10 minutes on a specific topic, and then we will break into small groups in order to hear more from particular speakers (with the invitation to switch groups). There will also be an opportunity to submit questions anonymously.
